    Exporting Press Ready Files with Quark

     

    Advanced Web Offset uses PDF workflow for its consistent quality and ease of use. However, if a quality PDF is not produced, the final product will suffer. Here are the steps needed to create a high quality PDF from Quark Xpress.

    Step 1

    Once you have completed your layout, and used “Utilities” to check that all images and fonts are linked, you are ready to create your PDF’s. Under the “File” menu you will see “Export – Layout as PDF”. Highlight it and release to get the next dialogue box

    Next you will see the following dialogue box that ask where you want to save your PDF, choose the “Option” button. Pull down the PDF style window and choose the “New PDF Output Style”. ON the verification pull down window, choose “PDF/X-1a 2001”. Name your output style “AWO PDF”.

    Step 3

    “Hyperlinks” – insure that you have the box unchecked.

    “Compression” – Set to “Automatic Zip/JPEG Low”

    “Color” – No change from the default settings

    “Fonts” – No change from the default settings.

    “Marks” – Insure that you have this set to Off.

    Step 8

    “Bleed” – Select Symmetric in the “Bleed Type” drop down list and add .25″ in the “Amount” field. Skip this step if your document does not have any bleeds.

    Step 9 & 10

    “Layers & Transparency” – No change from the default settings.

    Step 11

    “OPI” – insure that the “OPI option” is unchecked. The last two options, “JDF 7 Summary” will be unchanged from the default settings.
