What are your minimum and maximum press runs?
Because of the complexity of setting up a web press and the speed at which they run, a lot of scrap paper is pulled through the press while setting the registration and ink densities for your job. Therefore, we prefer to keep out press runs to a minimum of seven thousand finished copies. It would be possible to run as few as five hundred copies, but the costs associated with this short run may not be competitive. We have absolutely no maximum press runs. Our newest high-speed Gloss Universal Press is capable of running your job at almost fifty thousand copies per hour. Twenty thousand to twenty million, our maximum runs are limited only by your needs.

What is the difference between DPI, LPI? How do you define resolution? What type of screening process is available?
– We’ll define these for you and explain how each can affect your printed piece:
DPI
DPI (dots per inch) is used to explain the resolution of images. The more dots per inch, the higher the resolution. A common resolution for laser printers in 600 dots per inch; this means 600 dots across and 600 dots down, so there are 360,000 dots per square inch. Our Direct to Plate systems and high-speed imagesetters use between 1200 and 2400 DPI. You can see that in the latter case there are about 5,760,000 dots used allowing a much greater detail of the image being reproduced.
LPI
LPI (lines per inch). In printing, a continuous tone image, such as a photograph, is converted into black-and-white images called “halftones”. Halftones are created through a process called dithering, in which the density and pattern black and white dots are varied to simulate different shades of gray. In the past, photographing an image through a screen created conventional printing of halftones. The screen frequency, measured in lines per inch, determines how many dots are used to make each spot. In theory, the higher the screen frequency (the more lines per inch), the more accurate the halftone will be. When printing four color images the photograph is separated into four separate groups of dots each set using a different angel for the lines of dots. When the four primary colors (CMYK) are printed each on top of the other, a pattern called a “rosette” is formed. Depending on the size of the dots (from 0% to 100%) different colors were formed creating the image.
FM Screening/Stochastic Screening
FM Screening/Stochastic Screening: The step beyond conventional halftone screening is a technology was called FM screening or “Stochastic Screening”. In this process, no longer was the angling the four colors of dots formed patterns of “rosettes”. FM screening utilized more of a “spray pattern” in random positions. Color and images are formed by different amounts of these patterns, varying in density or closeness of each one to the other. Pictures were improved and small objects were reproduced with different levels of success.
CoRes Screening
Today, being very aware of FM screening, but still needing to improve the technology of conventional screening, Advanced Web Offset utilizes the very latest in screening processes. “CoRes Screening” or “Hybrid Screening”. This is state of the art screening that through the improved speed of the rastering processors of our front-end systems, the computer merges both the color changing ability of conventional screening and the quality and dithering process of FM screening into a truly modified hybrid screen reproduction. The finished printed piece is reproduced to an almost continuous tone image or the look of a photograph. With incredible clarity, sharp registration and perfect color reproduction you must experience AWO’s Hybrid CoRes Screening laser imaged directly onto the plate.
